DoctorVox Therapy System is a useful approach for voice professionals. Singers can use it to warm-up and down and to find the ‘position’ of the singing voice. By relaxing the unnecessary muscle groups, it increases the consciousness about the vocal mechanism. In the voice clinic, DoctorVox Therapy System is a holistic therapy for various functional and organic voice disorders (muscle tension dysphonias, vocal fold nodules and polyps, habitual and psychogenic dysphonias-aphonias, vocal fold paralysis, presbiphonias, pre, and postoperative phonosurgery etc.)
HISTORY
Marketta Sihvo, Ph.D., a Finnish speech and vocal therapist had the groundbreaking idea of giving her patients water in which they should phonetically through a flexible silicone tube. She called this method LAX VOX.
In lax vox, increased oral water pressure expands the vocal tract during phonation and prevents deleterious laryngeal tension. The tube between the protruding lips serves as a voice channel extension that affects the sound. Biofeedback helps to become aware of its healthy voice production.
LAX VOX Tube is a simple tool to instantly correct and facilitate the function of the voice mechanism in a short time. It changes the behavior and attitude of the user, bringing freedom and joy into the language – a holistic method that influences the interaction of the phonation, posture, breathing, and larynx at all pitches. This is a cognitive approach that yields multichannel biofeedback. Therefore, the LAX VOX Tube is a simple and useful tool to start language training, nurturing and vocal training and to adopt good voice habits. Singers can include the “Laxvoxing” in their normal exercises and vocal tasks.
In 1991, she presented her LAX VOX method since early 1991 at numerous international conferences. The responses were overwhelming: the simplicity of the idea of healthy voice production immediately dawned on the patient and therapists across Europe began to integrate the method into their therapies.
Ilter Denizoglu, a Turkish laryngologist, attended Sihvo’s workshop at the PEVOC 2003 in Graz. Later, he used his expertise to explain why phonation through a tube into the water is so effective. With his excellent explanations of the interactions between anatomical-physiological, physical and acoustic aspects, he contributed important additions to Sihvo’s workshop.
He further developed the method and invented the vocal mask by doctorVOX in 2017, which finally allows the relaxing bubbling with normal articulation – while singing and speaking. In a scientific study, it was already possible to show in 2018 how effective the voice mask is in the therapy of mutation disorders.
